Question:

2024 VW Tiguan SE with silver roof rails and pano window. I’m looking for the best fit/ease of use etc, cross bars. I have always got Yakima from etrailer, but I’m open to other quality brand. My thoughts- Flush mount, no overhang. Quiet as possible. Compatible for cargo basket, possible smaller kayak, rod carrier . Easy to take off when not needed, and of course easy to reinstall. Silver if possible to match vehicle racks. Anything on sale, rebate? Thanks for your time. I always appreciate etrailer being around. Bob Ft Madison, IA

Hey Bob,

For a flush set option we have the Thule Wingbar Edge Roof Rack # TH72VA. This is the only flush style we have but I wanted to throw it in there. It is both black and silver, not what you wanted but maybe the flush aspect is more important. It is an aero bar which are going to be the quietest out there. With a built in T channel you are able to use any rack or basket that either uses a T channel to install or any that clamp around the bars! A 165lb capacity would be great for a kayak/rod carrier as well.

If you wanted more of that silver look I would recommend the Yakima # Y72GD roof rack. This is an overhang style but is going to match the factory look a bit better. It offers the same channel/clamp style mounting for racks and is on the quietest side. With the same weight capacity both options are going to work great, and both manufacturers are at the top of their game. Ease of install and removal is no more than 10-15 minutes.

Where are you able to get out on the kayak and fish a little?

@BobN You are welcome, my friend, and happy Friday! With the pano roofs it is hard to know since each vehicle is different with them. If you want to open it and measure how high, it sits above the roof, I can run down and measure the roof rack in our warehouse and just get some quick math going to see if it will have clearance. Let me know I am here until this afternoon and then back in the office on Monday and can get you that information.
