Question:

My 2018 Chev Equinox is set up plates, etc. for Roadmaster motorhome towing. I no longer have the towing package because I sold the motorhome including the towing system. Now I have purchased a Class B motorhome and wish to use a Blue Ox towing system. My question is this: if I purchase the Roadmaster replacement crossbar, can this be adapted to receive the Blue Ox?

Hey Esther. The Crossbar for Roadmaster Motorhome Mounted Tow Bars item # RM-067 is not compatible with Blue Ox tow bars. You would need the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Adapter for Blue Ox and Demco Tow Bars item # RM-033.

It sounds like you have the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit item # RM-523193-4 installed on your 2018 Chev Equinox.

An easier solution would be to use our etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plates item # e44ZR. This setup comes with a crossbar adapter, safety chains, and a 6,000 lbs capacity tow bar that mounts to a 2" hitch. You won't have to do anything to your Equinox's setup if you go this route.

Did you keep your flat tow braking system and electrical wiring when you sold your old motorhome?

Thank you for your reply. My next question is this: Would I need to purchase the replacement RM222 for my car in order to use the tow bar e44ZR? I have sent you a pic via email showing what I have on my car where the crossbar would have been attached. Esther

@EstherP You're welcome! I did receive your email and the picture. Do you have the removable arms that insert into the round holes? These arms would've come with the baseplate kit item # RM-523193-4 and attach to the Crossbar item # RM-067. You will need to have those removable arms to use the etrailer Tow Bar item # e44ZR. It comes with it's own crossbar bracket so you will not need item # RM-067.

@JerredH No, i don't have the removeable arms. In that case I guess I would need to order the RM-067 so that I can obtain the removeable arms. Do you know whether or not these removeable arms would be available without ordering the entire crossbar? Esther Pegg

@EstherP There is no scenario here that has you needing the Roadmaster Crossbar item # RM-067. It does not come with removable arms. It is not compatible with any Blue Ox tow bar. You will also not need it with the etrailer Tow Bar item # e44ZR. You're going to have to reach out to Roadmaster directly to source the replacement arms for their item # RM-523193-4. The part numbers for them are C003171 and C003172. These are not available for purchase outside of Roadmaster. If you are unable to source replacement removable arms and want to use a Blue Ox tow bar, the only option available is going to be the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit item # BX1730.
