Updated 12/08/2025 | Published 11/13/2025

Question:

1. will the pro spread sand and grit besides bagged salt. 2. i hear that the auger in this type can lead to simply a hole/shaft in the salt compared to the Meyers spreader that has a brush auger.. ? 3. i hear that fine salt or sand will pour out of the hole when you pout it in. thanks i need something for our steep driveway and to help a neighbor or two.too. thanks.

Hello Scott, thanks for reaching out. The SaltDogg Electric Hitch-Mount Salt Spreader # 337TGSUVPROA can handle a salt/sand mixture, but it is not capable of handling straight sand or gravel. It does not have a brush augur like the Meyer spreader you mentioned, so sand could cause issues. The SaltDogg is a great option for covering smaller areas like driveways or small parking lots, but you will need to use only free floating
materials such as #1 dry Rock Salt. Mixing in some sand is possible but too much sand and it can start to pour out the hole like you said.

Hey Scott, how did the SaltDogg spreader work out for your steep driveway once you tried the salt and sand mix? Your update could make it easier for others deciding between this and the Meyer setup.
