How Wide is the Curt Weight Distribution Shank C17132?

Updated 11/19/2025 | Published 11/13/2025

Question:

What is the width of the shank? I have a customer that is looking to purchase a new one because the one that came with his weight distribution hitch has too much play. He would like one that is about a 1/4inch wider than what he has at the moment.

Hey Allie. The shank measures 2-1/2" wide on the Curt Weight Distribution Shank item # C17132. It's designed to fit 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" trailer hitches. The vertical part is 2" wide and works with most weight distribution systems.

I have linked a dimensional diagram below so you can see the rest of the measurements on the Curt item # C17132.

What vehicle and kind of weight distribution system does your customer have? Depending on what they have they could use the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches item # RM-062 to get the play out of their set up.

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hey Jerred, The play is not in the receiver. He has quite a bit of room where the weight distribution hitch connects to the shank.

@JerredH The customer has a Haul Master weight distribution hitch from Harbor Freight. He wants to know if there are any options for one that would have a 2 1/2" receiver and a 2 1/2" vertical shank?

@AllieT Not that I know of. We definitely don't have anything. 2" vertical is the standard width of weight distribution shanks. Like the Curt item # C17132, that's what all of ours measure except for the Weighsafes that are smaller.
