Can I Reverse the Shank on the Benton LittleShift Bike Rack for 1 Bike so I can Get More Clearance?

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 11/08/2025

Question:

Can the receiver part of the hitch be reversed upside down to the hitch further? I want to mount this in the 2foot hitch on the rear of my 2007 Ram 3500 truck while I carry my fifth wheel camper over the top of it.

Hello Mike,

I’m sorry, but you cannot mount the shank upside down on the Benton LittleShift Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # B54VR.

If you’d like to lower the rack for more clearance, I recommend using the Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" Hitches - 11" Rise/Drop - 7K # PH54FR. This will give you the extra clearance you need.

A more cost-effective alternative would be the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-070, which provides a 4" drop and supports up to 200 lbs of tongue weight.

Do you have a receiver at the back of your 5th wheel?

Thanks for your reply, Kate. I need about 10 " drop to be able to make that e bike clear under the fifth wheel camper. I may have to come up with another solution. mike

@MikeD My pleasure Mike! Have you considered putting a hitch on the back of your 5th wheel? We have adjustable ones that will work like the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703. If you were to go that route, you will need to make sure that your bike rack is rated for the back of a 5th wheel. The Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" Hitches - 11" Rise/Drop - 7K # PH54FR would give you the drop you are needing.
