Replacement Water Heater for Atwood GCH10A-3E in 2000 Winnebago Journey 34B

Updated 12/03/2025 | Published 11/07/2025

Question:

The water heater is missing in my 2000 Winnebago Journey 34B. Parts catalog shows P/N GCH10A-3E. I believe that they are no longer available. Can you recommend a replacement. The vent is in the cargo bay door

Hey Fred! That is correct, the Atwood GCH10A-3E is no longer around since Atwood no longer exists. Assuming you want to move to a tankless, the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR93FR you were looking at is the best option. Since you have the 10 gallon Atwood the 18" x 18" door is the correct fit. You can choose from the following based on color:

-Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Auto Pilot - 60,000 BTU - 18" x 18" Door - Black # FR42TD

-Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Auto Pilot - 60,000 BTU - 18" x 18" Door - White # FR68SR

Any big trips planned with your Winnebago this fall/winter?

Hey Fred, how did the Furrion tankless water heater work out in your Winnebago? Did the 18 x 18 door line up well with your cargo bay vent? Your update could make it easier for the next person replacing an old Atwood unit.

@RobinH Noticed that there were what looks like vents for air intake or something. Do you think it will be a problem being mounted behind the bay door. It looks like the exhaust vent would line up with the vent in door

@FredN the vents on the bottom of the door? That won't be a problem. You just have to make sure all exhaust gases are directed outside.

@RobinH Thanks for the info. The other model I was looking at is the Suburban SAW6DE. Any thoughts on that one?
