Does Draw Tite Hitch for 2025 Volkswagen Atlas Fit Vehicles with OEM Hitch

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 10/20/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Volkswagen Atlas SEL Premium R-Line with the factory towing package. I am looking at the Draw-Tite 76176 as I want to be able to use a WD hitch, which is not possible with the factory receiver. In every photo and installation video Ive seen for an Atlas, the vehicle did not have the factory receiver, which, by the way, has the 7-pin connector physically integrated into it. Can the 76176 be used on vehicles with the OEM receiver?

Hey Jim, I checked with Draw Tite and the hitch part # 76176 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for all models of the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas so it would fit the models that have the factory hitch. How heavy is the trailer you plan on towing and do you have a weight distribution system already?

Thanks, Jameson! We're pulling a 2025 Rockwood GeoPro 19FD. UVW is just over 3,500 pounds. GVWR is 4,400 pounds. The CAT scale tells me we're sitting at around 3,900 with two full propane tanks, two LiON batteries, and our "stuff" in drawers and cabinets, with a hitch weight of 470 pounds. That puts us within the Atlas's 5,000-pound towing capacity and 500-pound tongue weight limit. The biggest issue is rear end sag. The coil springs are soft, making it impossible to get the front of the trailer and the back of the Atlas to be level. For whatever reason, the Firestone Coil-Rite air bags have not been approved on the 2024 and 2025 Atlas, despite Volkswagen assuring me that there have been no changes to the rear suspension since the Atlas was introduced. They have also confirmed that the OEM hitch prevents using a weight distribution hitch, not the vehicle itself. I don't have a WDH picked out yet. I have used the Fastway E2 system on past campers and tow vehicles, and while effective, the hitch head and bars are very heavy, and due to some worsening joint issues, very difficult for me to handle.

@JimK Since the suspension hasn't changed I would probably go with the Firestone kit part # F4175 first and see how you like that.
