Looking For A Kayak Carrier For My 2 Kayaks With Lift Assist On My Honda CRV
Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 10/20/2025 >
Question:
I have a 2017 Honda CR-V. I’d like to load 2 kayaks on the roof with some kind of load assist. My kayaks weigh a total of 80 pounds with a roof load rating of 150-165. The Hullivator is too wide and heavy for 2 kayaks as is the Yakima version, I think it’s called Showdown. The MOS kayak carrier may be an option since it’s narrower. The height will make it necessary to take it off each time so my car will fit in my garage. A couple of questions for starters: 1. Is it easy to install/remove the MOS system? Ease is important since it will have to happen whenever I use the kayaks. 2. I have factory aerobars from Honda installed. These do not extend beyond the roof rails. Will these work with the MOS system or will I need to spend more for extended crossbars and supports? Thanks for your help, Don

Hey Donald,
The MOS Uplift Kayak Roof Rack # MR89ZV would be a solid option for you. With the actual rack weighing 33lbs, using 2 for both your kayaks would keep you in the range of your roof capacity. In terms of install and removal it is simple. There are clamps that go around your crossbars that simply need to be loosened to be removed and then you take it off. For your crossbars, they do not need to hang over past the roof rails in order to use this rack, you can use it with your current setup and have no issues. I have attached the instructions below for you so you can get a better idea on install as well.
What kind of kayaks do you have?
