Troubleshooting Installing Tow Bar Wiring On a Vehicle w/ Separate Brake Signal And Turn Signals

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/25/2025

Question:

I installed the Demco 4-Diode Universal Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles on a Ram 1500 Big Horn. All the lights work except when I press the brake on the RV the right passenger side turn signal does not work. The left driver side turn signal works when the brake is pressed. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this issue.

Hey Michael, welcome back! Since your 2020 Ram 1500 has separate brake and turn signals you're also going to need the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter item # 118158 and two extra diodes item # RM-792. The four diodes included with the Demco 4-Diode Universal Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles item # DM9523010-54 aren't capable of separating those signals which is why you're getting those issues when you press the brakes.

Hey Michael, did adding the tail light converter and extra diodes clear up the issue with your Ram’s right turn signal when braking from the RV? Knowing what fixed it could help others wiring similar setups.

@JerredH I did not see your answer until today. I will have to get the parts and try it.
