Does 12 Volt Fridge Need Inverter and Transfer Switch from Shore Power

Updated 10/06/2025 | Published 09/04/2025

Question:

I want to connect a 12v RV refrigerator to an automatic transfer switch so I can be on AC when in a park. Do you I also need an inverter? I can plug 12v direct, so Im thinking an inverter is not necessary. THX

Hey Dan, an inverter takes DC power and converts it to AC power so if anything you'd need the opposite of that which would be a converter like the Go Power # 34266169 which would take the AC power from your RV park and convert it to DC for your 12 volt fridge.

Hey Dan, did the Go Power converter work out for connecting your 12V fridge to the automatic transfer switch? I'm curious because it could help others looking to set up their RVs in a similar way.

@JamesonC Actually, I need to return the unit. What I need (according to the refrigerator manufacturer) is a CONVERTER, not an INVERTER. I need to convert 120v to 12v with automatic transfer from 120v to 12v when I unplug from the RV power pedistal. Do you carry that? THX

@DanF That's actually what I mentioned above. I had recommended the converter part # 34266169 above. We don't have a version that has an integrated transfer switch but you would need the part # PD5110010Q with it that we sell separately.
