Can Malone 65" Crossbars Be Used On A 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness?

Updated 09/10/2025 | Published 09/01/2025

Question:

Hello, Will Malone 65” crossbars fit my 2024 Subaru Wilderness? Can you tell me which towers I need to fit my raised rail? Thanks

Hi Andy!

We actually have the Malone 65" version as a whole kit with the AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised Side Rails - Aluminum - 65" Long - Black # MAL24AR. Not sure why we don't have this listed for your 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness, but it will clamp on to those raised rails without issues. It also looks like your Forester is 71.5" wide without the mirrors or 80.9" wide with the mirrors, so there will be no problems there either (you really shouldn't have the crossbars extend past the mirrors as it's actually illegal in some states).

What are you wanting to carry?

I’d like to carry two canoes. I need 64”. The canoes are pretty light- about 45 lbs each if that makes any difference. I talked with someone on line who does use the Malone 65” on his Subaru Forester wilderness. I also asked Malone support and they said this Thank you for reaching out to us regarding our Airflow2; I am sorry but we do not list the 65" Airflow2 as being compatible with the 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Our Airflow2 is only compatible with the Raised Rail Model of the 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness in the 50" & 58" lengths. It is the distance between the Raised Rails on the roof of that Forester Wilderness that makes the 65" System not compatible, and would have the Towers too close together on a 65" Crossbar. The section of the Crossbar that extends past the Towers/Raised Rails is also not a Load Bearing section of the Crossbar, and there should not be any equipment installed on that section of the Crossbar, so having a longer Crossbar on that Roof would not provide any benefit. So I really don’t know what to believe ??

@AndyM I can tell you it would physically fit, but if Malone is saying it's a no go, then I do have to go with what they say, unfortunately. I do have another option for you, but be warned, it will be more expensive. Yakima has an HD bar set up that goes all the way up to 78" (which would be too long, in my opinion), but their 68" ones would work though. Yakima HD Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 68" Long - Qty 2 # Y01158 HD Bar Adapter for Yakima Streamline Towers - Qty 4 # Y03541 TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Qty 4 # Y33TR The HD bars do live up to that name as they are beefier than other options, so there would not be any issues carrying two 45 pound canoes. I know it is a bummer to have this much of a price jump, but it would be the sturdiest option out there.

@LazerS. Thanks for such a great explanation and an alternate plan. I’ll have to think about it before I make a decision.
