Replacement Distribution Panel and Converter for a PD 733Q08RMTZB

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/30/2025

Question:

Trying to figure out my options. I have a 1982 Automate 24foot Class C motorhome on a Ford E-350 chassis. I have a PD 733Q08RMTZB Power Converter/Charger. Working great the past 40+years. My charging Sentental light and charging part of the converter has failed. When on shore power 12volts is still working to my lights and things in the RV. I have found a burnt resistor on the board that no one seems to know the value of or where I can get one. This unit is rated at 30 amp with 4 amps of charging all at the same time. Here is how I am connected. Coach starting battery is isolated and coach can charge house battery through it. House battery wired to converter. Converter has 120vt shore cord that can be plugged into shore OR the onboard Onan 4K generator has a female output plug to use instead. What are my options to get back to business? See pics. Thanks.

Hey Dave, thanks for the pictures. I recommend replacing your distribution panel and upgrading your converter charger all in one. You can use the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel item # PD4045KA. This is a 45 amp unit has space for up to 3 breakers rated for 120V at 30 amps. This lets you have up to 6 branch circuits when you use tandem breakers. The DC section has 12 branch fuse holders capable of using (2) 30 amp and (10) 20 amp fuses.

The item # PD4045KA requires a 10-3/4" long x 7-1/4" tall cutout hole. It's overall dimensions are 12-1/4" long x 8-3/4" tall x 7-1/4" deep.

Additionally, this unit comes with an output mode switch so that you can set the converter to charge either lead acid or lithium batteries without having to purchase any kind of adapter. It's able to sense the charge level of the battery and work together with your solar panel system to keep the battery charged.

If you don't want to replace the entire panel you can just disconnect your converter and use the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD69RR.

Do you know what gauge wiring is ran to your power center?

Hey Dave, did you have a chance to check the gauge of the wiring to your power center? Knowing this will help ensure the new converter charger is compatible with your setup. If you're still looking for a solution, I'm happy to help!

Hello Jerred, It looks like I have # 8 running to the battery, no solar. # 8 is also running from the isolator that is wired to the vehicles charging system to the battery. I found that relay in my existing power center switches the 12v that comes from the battery off and powers 13.6v to the 12v side. But, like I mentioned I am not getting any voltage to charge my battery anymore from this unit. Do these new power converters charge the battery AND supply 12v to the fixtures at the same time as mine did? Also, can I start the motorhome when it's plugged in the shore power/Generator? It's getting technical now... Thanks.

@DaveW 8 gauge wire is definitely going to work with the the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter item # PD4045KA. It will charge your batteries and provide continuous power to run 12V loads in your RV. You can start your motorhome while it's plugged in to shore power or a generator. However, you can't have two AC power sources like a generator and shore power connected at same time. You'll need to install the Transfer Switch w/ Quick Flip Connectors item # PD5110010Q if you do.

Hi Jerred, Okay sounds like we got the solution. I would like to purchase the PD 4000 RV converter. I can't run the Generator and the shore at the same time because I have to plug them in only 1 at a time. My shore cord plugs into my generator. So don't need the transfer switch. Clarification... But I can run 12v x2 at the same time?? Shore power or gen set AND RV engine running?? Example, run my roof top A/C while on the road...

@Dave Yes, the RV engine running is still drawing off of the coach battery. You'll be able to run your generator to power the AC while driving. Your alternator will not be able to power the AC alone. The Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD69RR will get you up and going.
