Hitch Bike Rack for a 2025 Toyota 4Runner OEM Hitch

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/29/2025

Question:

Hello - I want to buy a hitch mounted bike carrier ... however I have a 2025 Toyota 4Runner and in doing my research, the hitch pin bolt on the Yakima rack is not long enough for the carter pin and lock to attach. The hitch is thicker than most and a longer bolt is needed. Can you recommend if a longer bolt is available for purchase that works with the HoldUp rack?

Thanks for reaching out, Paul!

A lot of bike rack companies utilize a threaded hitch pin to match the thread in the shank. Yakima is one of them and at this time they don't a longer hitch pin. You would need to get a rack that doesn't have a threaded shank, like the Kuat Transfer V2 part # KU84FR. Kuat has an anti-rattle that is built into the shank and doesn't rely on a threaded hitch pin.

The Kuat rack does come with a hitch pin, but if you would like to get an even longer one you can also pick up part # GY68XR. Let me know what you think of the rack and if you have any questions about it.

Hey Paul, Did you decide to go with the Kuat Transfer V2 rack or find another solution for your 4Runner? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others facing a similar issue with their hitch.
