Can SoftStart be Used with Surge Protector

Question:
I have a 2020 Grand Design Reflection 38’ bumper pull with built in surge protector. Will this 50 amp soft start work in conjunction with my built in unit? Thanks, Allen

Hey Allen, yes you can definitely use the SoftStart part # AS34FR with a surge protector. You would want to plug the surge protector in the power source first and then plug the Softstart into the surge protector. This order ensures that the surge protector handles any initial power spikes before the soft start manages the inrush current from the appliance, offering protection against both mechanical start-up stress and electrical surges. Have you had any power issues with your Grand Design or camping in general?

Thank you, I’m not able to plug in the built in surge protector since it’s built into the side of a cabinet with an on / off switch for when I’m using my generator or shore power. Would this make a difference? Thanks again, Allen
