Does the Velit 2000R work in high desert heat? I’m worried about airflow in middle of arizona.

Dan, yes, Velit tested these units in hot, dusty environments and designed them for all vanlife conditions. The ductless setup on the # VE87QV pushes 250 CFM of airflow directly into your rig, no ductwork needed. As long as you size it right (8k BTUs is great for a van), you’ll stay comfortable even in Nevada summers. Velit states this unit (and others from them) can work in temps up to 125°F (52°C). That doesn't mean you'll be able to set it to 60 degrees and it'll get there since most RV units can drop inside temp about 20 degrees, but this unit should work a little better than the industry 20 degree rule of thumb.
