Why Would Curt Triflex Brake Controller Apply Trailer Brakes all the Time
Updated 08/06/2025 | Published 08/04/2025 >
Question:
I got a curt triflex next installed on my 2024 gmc acadia. I had to unplug it because it was applying the brake on and off while i was driving. Causing the brakes to overheat on my cargo trailer. Could it be wired wrong or a bad controller. Thanks.

Hey Gilles, this issue means that the red wire of your Curt Triflex brake controller is shorting out to the black wire which is causing the controller to think you have the brakes on all the time. So what you'll need to do is go over the wiring of the brake controller and make sure the red and black wires aren't touching each other and use electrical tape to insulate both wires to prevent the short. Let me know what you find and if that doesn't fix the problem.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Curt brake controllers need to be reset more frequently than other brand controllers so you might have to do a hard reset by unplugging the controller and then plugging it back in.

Unplugging it worked. Had to load set to 9. So lowered it to 2. One of the two things did the trick.
