Looking For Caliper To Replace Discontinued Tie Down Engineering 46802 Caliper

Updated 08/13/2025 | Published 08/03/2025

Question:

Hi, I currently have 8 bolt hubs, with tie down engineering cast steel calipers, 46802 calipers, which are discontinued, im searching for a caliper that could bolt on to the existing caliper bracket if possible. Wondering if this Deemax which looks almost identical has course thread caliper pins? And will it come with caliper brackets? Thank you! Sincerely

Hello Steve, thanks for reaching out. The DeeMaxx Replacement Caliper # DE52WR would not be a suitable replacement for the discontinued TDE 46802 caliper. Based on my research the TDE 46802 is for 7K-8K axles and the # DE52WR is only rated up to 6K.

Aside from that, it is never recommended to mix and match brands with your calipers, brackets and rotors. Some of the different brands have parts that differ dimensionally. The differences can be slight, but that is enough to make parts incompatible. Like say if the bracket was even 1/10" different it could cause the pads to rub. We see this all the time when folks try to mix and match parts.

Those things considered, the best solution I can offer would be a whole new disc brake kit with brackets, rotors and calipers. Since the TDE 46802 is discontinued it is going to be difficult if not impossible to find a direct compatible replacement. Unless you can find one secondhand, new brakes will be the best option.

I would need to look at your hub part number or bearing/spindle size to know what rotor will fit. Get me that info when you can and I am happy to look into it.

Jesse m, Thank you for your help! I wished I had seen your response earlier, but I do greatly appreciate your time and effort on answering the question! You are correct from what I researched. I have 6 wheels with the tiedown calipers, and unfortunately 6 caliper pins wiggled loose and disappeared. Unfortunately they no longer make a course thread caliper pins, and thankfully I found some on ebay! To get me through the next month of boating season. However I would love your suggestions on which caliper to change over too, because I am planning on switching all six calipers this fall. What information would help you determine which caliper is right for me?

@SteveE We wouldn't have just the calipers so the solution here would be a complete disc brake kit with brackets, calipers and rotors. For that I would need to know your axle info like weight capacity, brake flange bolt pattern and bearing info. If there is a part number cast on your hubs, I might be able to use that to pull up your bearing info. Otherwise you would have to remove and hub and get the bearing numbers, or measure the part of the spindle where the bearings and seals ride. It sounds like this might be an older trailer so I would want to check as many of these specs as possible to make sure it all matches up. For example, the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE88AR is for a standard 8K axle. It uses a # 25580 inner bearing and # 02475 outer bearing. The seal is a 2.250" ID and the bolt pattern is 8 on 6-1/2". The brake flange uses 4 bolts.
