What Wiring do I Need to Install to get My 2021 Ford Ranger Ready for a Brake Controller?

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/03/2025

Question:

I have a 2021 Ford Ranger w/factoy 4-pin. I tow a camper that uses a 7-blade connector. I currently have a 4 pin - 7-blade adapter on my truck. What other products would I need to ensure this brake controller can communicate with my single axle camper via the 7-blade connector?

Hello Max,

Happy to get the right wiring for you.

Since you already have the 4 flat on the back, in order for you to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness - Dash Knob - Proportional # RED52VR you will need to install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7.

You will need to run a power line from your battery to the rear with a couple of amps along the way, and a brake wire from the front driver side to the 7 way on the rear of the vehicle as well. I attached an install video so you can see exactly what needs to be done.

Got your first big camping adventure planned for after you get things set-up? Where are you headed?

Hey Max, Did you find the installation video helpful for setting up your brake controller with the 7-way connector? I'd love to hear how it went, as it could help others looking to do the same.
