What Advent Air Conditioner Set-Up Do I Need to Replace My Dometic 13,500 BTU?

Updated 07/25/2025 | Published 07/18/2025

Question:

I have a 2019 Coleman 263BH with the 13.5k btu dometic unit. The details of this unit say its not backwards compatible and I have to use a different distribution box. I looked at the recommended box, and it looks like it will move the controls to the box cover, instead of using the thermostat on the wall. Is this correct? Ill need to retain the thermostat to run the furnace, is there an option to use the wall thermostat to control this AC unit?

Hello Mike,

Great question. The RV air conditioner went from the R410a to the R32 this year. The new R32 parts are not compatible with the old R410a parts. The R32 is more efficient making it a win-win for the environment and the consumer. The downfall, you need a whole new system. You were looking at the manual air distribution box, I have a much better option for you.

I recommend going with the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 13,500 Btu - White - R32 # ADV95SR. The # ADV95SR will come with everything you need for a new set-up: air conditioner, air distribution box, thermostat (that you can hook your furnace up to as well), and even the start capacitor. All you will need is an extra set of hands to get it on the roof.

Any big fun adventures this summer? Where did you go, or where are you going?

Thanks for the reply, Kate! As long as I can run the furnace as well, I don't mind switching to one of the new units. We're going to be full timing in Florida and across the western states, so I may even upgrade to a bigger BTU unit while I'm at it.

@MikeD If you're going to bump things up, you might as well go with a sleek, low-profile design. Here’s a great setup: 15,000 BTU Advent Air Low Profile RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - White - R32 # ADV82SR. If you’d like to take the edge off those chilly mornings, consider adding a heat strip (note: it’s not a full heater, that’s your furnace’s job). For that, grab # ADV34QR. You’ll be able to control your furnace using the thermostat that comes with the Advent system. Just hit the MODE button to switch between the three available modes: cooling, furnace, and heat strip. If you want to bump things up even further, check out the new Furrion 18,000 BTU: Furrion Chill Cube RV AC with Air Distribution Box and Thermostat - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR69TD. This unit is impressively quiet, and the included thermostat is also furnace compatible. I’ve attached a video where my buddy Kevin gives a great walkthrough of the unit! If you have any questions about the units Mike, you know where to find me!
