Can Inno Square Crossbars Be Used On 2017 Toyota Sienna With Thule Squarebar Roof Rack?

Updated 07/28/2025 | Published 07/18/2025

Question:

Good morning .. Ive a 2017 Toyota Sienna with factory side rails and Thule square cross bars to carry two kayaks on Thule Glide and Set saddles. The cross bars are not long enough to add a third kayak with Glide and Set saddles. Will the Inno Square Crossbars - Steel - Black - 79 Long - Qty 2 work with my current system? Is there a better option? All thoughts and ideas are genuinely appreciated. Blue skies .. Jet

Hey Jet, thanks for reaching out.

Let me start by asking you this; what kind of Thule square bars do you have? Are they the new style square bars with a bottom channel? Or are they the old style bars with no bottom channel where the bar inserts thru the tower?

If your current roof rack is set up for the old style Thule bars with no bottom channel, it is possible to use the Inno 79" bars # IN436L. The Inno square bars are identical in size, and mount exactly the same way as the old style Thule bars, so they are interchangeable. The 79" bar might look a little funny on a Sienna since the bar is so long, but it will absolutely allow room for a 3rd kayak.

If your Thule roof rack uses the new style bars with the bottom channel, there would be no way to mount the Inno bars. In this case we would have to look at a whole new roof rack to add a longer crossbar.

Let me know what Thule bars you have old or new.

Thanks ever so much for your thorough response. As Ive had my Thule bars since 2008, I'm happy to say they are the old style, no channel, slide through bars. I'll be ordering the Inno 79" bars and looking a bit like a moose driving three kayaks into Canada. My gratitude for your help. Blue skies .. Jet

@Jet Awesome! The Inno bars will work for you! Your sienna may look like a moose but if you are going to Canada I imagine you will blend right in haha My only advice would be try to position the kayaks as close to the middle of the vehicle as possible with the heaviest in the middle and strap them down well. Feel free to contact me anytime you need anything :)
