Looking For New Spindle For 2010 Forest River R-Pod 177 With Lippert 3,500 lb Axle

Updated 07/21/2025 | Published 07/14/2025

Question:

I literally today bought a 2010 Forest River RPod-177, with 3500 lbs axle with brakes. It has been raining since I came home with the trailer but I can see that I may have one spindle in bad shape as the left tire has a visible angle. Do you know which one I will need in this type of axle? Do you have any video on how to replace the spindle? Thank you.

Hey Al, congrats on the new camper! The Lippert 3,500 lb axles use a standard spindle size. We do offer a replacement for this. Take a look at the following:

- #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Trailer Axle - 1-3/4" Diameter # TRU74FR

Replacing a spindle can be tricky. It must be welded to an extremely precise angle and this can typically only be done by a shop that specifically works on and welds trailer axles. It is not something that can be done by a typical DIYer. We do not have a video showing this because we don't do any welding or axle building here at our shop.

The next option aside from that would be to replace your axle entirely. What you need is a 3,500 lb axle with an 88.5" hub face and 59.5" spring center. We do not carry a match for this, but if you go thru an axle manufacturer like Dexter, they should be able to help you get an axle.

Yes, I will do better the axle replacement, and see if I can add R16 tires at least. My truck has factory 20. I contacted LCI Lipper, let's see how can I ask Dexter...because there is more questions and answers but no email.

Hi It is very hard to find this axle, even Lipper, the manufacturer has not responded me yet. I think that one torsion arm is a little bent so the bottom of the right tire is inclined towards the outside. I checked the spindle and it seems square to the axle. The bearings were bad, and probably it was driven like that for a long period, then hitting a few road holes, making it bend. What about if I decide to go to straight axle with laminated springs? I will need one that the hook ups will match the wide of my trailer. Will the trailer like an Rpod bounce too much? Do you have one matching the factory size. I know I will have to weld, etc. the factory is: LCI Lipper Components. Serial number 045-001078340 NV # 201331 GAWR 3500 lbs Thank you.

@Al Hey Al so we do not carry any torsion axles here, so we would not have a direct replacement for you. It would be possible to switch over to a leaf spring axle as long as the axle and all other suspension components are sized correctly. If Lippert can't help, you should definitely try Dexter. They could even custom make an axle for you.
