What is the purpose of the 3rd mounting screw

Hey Bryan! The third screw and mounting hole on your Stromberg Carlson Folding Handrail for RVs # AC-530 is strictly for OEM use and requires a backing or washer/plate. You do not need to use it when installing the rail on your trailer. See the picture below.
