Replacement Axle Options For A Trailex SUT 200 Boat Trailer

Updated 07/10/2025 | Published 07/07/2025

Question:

I have a trailex SUT 200 and am looking for a replacement axle and spindles. The original has an aluminum axle OD 1 5/16” with 1” straight spindles pressed in the end and secured with a bolt. The axle has been notched by the rear seal so I think replacing just the spindles is not an option. Anything in your inventory people have used in a similar situation?

That is a very unique trailer you have, Gordon. Maybe a little too unique.

We have spindles that you could use as replacements (1-3/8" Diameter Stub # TRU59FR, 1-1/4" Diameter Stub # TRU94FR, or 1-1/2" Wide (square) Stub # TRU97FR) that all have a 1" shaft for the bearings (which would be part # L44643). That axle is going to be too short for us to have anything that would work, unfortunately.

What I would probably do would be grab two of these spindles and some tubing that will slide over the stub end and have someone weld a new axle together. Probably not what you were wanting to hear, but with how unique your axle is, it will likely be the best route to take. Unless Trailex sells replacements, of course.

Out of curiosity, what kind of boat to you carry with your trailer?

A Sunfish. All 120lb of it. Might be easier replacing the axle, but the current 1 5/16" tube is clamped to the trailer between rubber sheets. Very rudimentary 'suspension' along with underinflated tires.

@GordonJ My dad had a Sunfish (not sure which model) that he would sail around a lake here in Missouri! I never could get the hang of it though. I was always better at just floating anyway. : P I think you are correct though. With that axle being so specific to that trailer, it is not going to be easy to find a direct replacement in the aftermarket... market. Have you tried reaching out to Trailex?

@LazerS Yes, long discontinued. I may be able to convert it to a leaf spring - they used to sell a kit which I'd need to order by each piece. If I'm going through that expense, I'll keep an eye on the used market or see what my local shop can cobble together this fall. The trailer and boat weigh 250# altogether. I can make it to and from the local lake for now.

@GordonJ Bummer. If you decide to go the leaf spring route, I would recommend checking out the CE Smith 24-5/8" Slipper Leaf Spring - 250 lb Load - 1-3/4" Wide - Single Leaf - Steel # CES73JR. It is the smallest leaf spring we carry and I think it will serve your needs.
