Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at the CE Smith 24 5/8" long leaf slipper spring, rated 250 pounds load. It's 1 3/4" wide and it's considered a single leaf construction. Now folks, this would be a great replacement for a worn out, maybe even a broken trailer leaf spring. Again, this is a CE Smith slipper style spring.
So a double-eye spring would have this on both sides, but as you can see, you have the little slipper side here, thus the slipper spring. And this install is using a 1/2" shackle bolt, sold separately. And this again, is 1 3/4" wide. And when you measure these slipper springs, you measure from the very, very tip all the way to the center of the eye, and that's where you get that 24 5/8" when it's unloaded. Unloaded means it's like this.
So if you're measuring on your trailer, even a little bit, if a spring is worn out, it could be compressed down a little bit, you may get a number larger, so maybe you're getting, I don't know, 25 inches. Most likely, if it's within about 1/4" or so, I would say, you want to pick the lower number because again, yours is probably sprung open, if that makes sense, okay So it's gonna be flattened out and bigger than what this one is. So just keep that in mind. You can always reach out to us and we can help assist you with telling you where and how to measure. Some people measure from the center point here at a right angle over to the center of that and do that measurement or vice versa.
You can do it however you need to and match it up that way as well. We have different diagrams on the product page as well that gives you those kind of measurements as well. Now, I do recommend personally replacing springs in pairs. So you're just gonna get quantity one, but I recommend replacing them both, that way you have two that are the same, brand new spring, flexibility, and those kind of things. So again, this durable steel construction will resist flex fatigue and road wear.
It's super lightweight, about four pounds, light enough for you to install yourself, but strong enough for towing. Again, the axle rating for a spring like this will be about 500 pounds, so a super small trailer. This spring itself is rated at 250 pounds capacity.
