Can I use the SnapPad StakPads on uneven or rocky surfaces?

Published 06/11/2025

Question:

We camp off-grid most weekends in Utah. A lot of our spots are gravel forest roads or old BLM patches with hard clay and rocks. Are these pads up to the challenge?

Hi Dave and Susan—we love hearing from fellow boondockers! You’re the exact kind of camper SnapPad had in mind when they designed the StakPads, such as black # SN74VR and white # SN64VR. The rubber material gives a little flex to match rough terrain but is stiff enough to keep your jack feet from sinking or shifting.

We've had folks park over shale rock and gravel mixes in Colorado and report rock-solid stability. Plus, they stack easily if you need more clearance or extra support. You might still want to bring a shovel to level out the worst spots, but with these under your feet, you’ll feel a lot more confident leveling in the wild.

Do you have a favorite off-grid spot?

Thanks for the great info, Andrew! That’s exactly what we needed to hear. We’re actually heading back out to Grand Staircase next weekend—some of those spots are gorgeous but definitely rough on gear. Glad to hear these can take a beating and still hold strong. We’ll give ’em a shot and let you know how they hold up out there!

@DaveS Sounds like an epic trip! Grand Staircase definitely keeps you on your toes when it comes to terrain—perfect test ground for the StakPads. They’ve done great for other off-grid campers, so I think you’ll be impressed. And yes, we’d love to hear how they perform in the wild! Safe travels, and hope you get a perfect sunset out there.
