Question:

Do you think it is necessary to use Thread Lock on the bolts that hold the hitch in place? Thank you Pete

Hey Peter,

Although thread lock is not necessary to install the hitch, # e98838, it is always recommended. Its especially recommended on applications where the bolts are exposed to repeated vibrations/road impacts like a trailer hitch. All it is going to do is really secure those bolts in and keep them from coming loose after frequent towing.

I recommend # LT37420, Loctite, we use it on all of our hitch installations at our facility. Are you looking to tow with your hitch or use something like a bike rack more often?

Thanks Nick, The hitch is only being used to carry a Thule bike rack. It won't be used too often. Pete Sposato

@Peter If you would rather not, there is not a downside to not using it. Hitches get torqued down to a specific measurement for your vehicle so the hitch will still be installed securely, it is really up to you. The thread lock is just added security. With a bike rack not used too often you won't have any issues or concerns installing without it.

@Peter Of course! You'll have to let me know how the install goes for you.
