Question:
I have an 27 boat and aluminum double axle magic tilt trailer with surge brakes. Boat and trailer weigh approx 9800 combined 8129 boat, 1595 trailer. I have installed aftermarket air bags but the 2024 Toyota Tundra I drive states to use max towing you need a weight dist hitch. The aluminum beams on my magictilt trailer are more than 6 tall. Can you suggest something that would work for my application? Thank You!

Hey Chad! How tall is the tongue of your trailer? It looks like the frame is quite a bit taller than the actual trailer tongue from some of the pictures I looked at. This is important because you're going to need a pole tongue adapter like # EQ95-01-5950 to use a weight distribution hitch on your trailer. The Equal-i-zer system is the best option but will only fit trailer tongues up to 5" tall. There are adapter offerings from Reese and Blue Ox as well but they only go up to 6" tall.
In addition to the trailer tongue dimensions you will also need to know your tongue weight (TW). Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight, plus anything in your truck bed behind the rear axle. Assuming the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System can be used with the adapter there are likely two options based on the weight of your setup which are as follows:
-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37120ET (TW range 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs)
-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET (TW Range 1,000 lbs - 1,400 lbs)
Ideally you want your tongue weight to fall into the middle of the range of the system. If you aren't sure what your tongue weight is I recommend measuring with a scale like the # BTBRV27FR to be sure. Once you have your measurements you can reply below and I can either confirm this will work or we can try to find another solution.
