Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for a 10 Lug Wheel

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/26/2025

Question:

I’m trying to find a spare tire mount that I can use in the front hitch on my F550. The wheels on the truck have ten lugs, which I think rules out your eTrailer front hitch. The Roadmaster is is too tall for a front hatch, I believe. Any suggestions?

Hey Mark. The only spare tire carrier we have that fits a 10 lug wheel and mounts in a 2" receiver is the Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier item # RM-195225. From the top of the shank on the carrier to the uppermost part of the tire measures right at 42-3/4".

This hitch-mounted carrier will work with wheels that have any bolt pattern, and will fit so long as your wheel is between 16" and 24-1/2"in diameter, which is very common.

Hey Mark, did the Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier work out for your F550? I'm curious to know if it fit well, as it might help others with similar trucks.

@JerredH I wound up not buying the Roadmaster, as much as I liked the product. I talked to a representative at Roadmaster who told me t should not use it with a drop down hitch, which I would have needed to do for sight line purposes in the front.

@Mark Yeah those adapters really limit the options you have on hitch accessories.
