How to Find Replacement Brakes for 2001 Magnum Tandem Axle Boat Trailer

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 05/13/2025

Question:

Good morning, I have a 2001 Magnum dual axle boat trailer that I would like to replace the brakes on. The trailer VIN:1v5aa232411345670 has 14 in wheels with a 5 lug pattern. Based on this information, can you recommend a brake replacement? Thank you, Bryan West

Hey Bryan! To find replacement brakes we need to either identify your axle or at least know the size and the brake flange bolt pattern. The best way to identify the axle is with the axle tag. Are these electric brakes or hydraulic? If I had to guess, you probably have 3,500 lb axles on the trailer.

If they're standard axles you can use the # AKEBRK-35-SA for electric brakes or # AKUBRK-35 for hydraulic. If you need free backing because you don't have a lockout that would be # AKFBBRK-35. All of these are 10" x 2-1/4" brake assemblies that fit a 4-bolt brake flange with holes 2-7/8" apart on center.

If you find that you have a different axle, or a non-standard brake flange, let me know in the comments below and I'll see what else is available.

Hey Bryan, did you have a chance to check the axle tag or the brake flange bolt pattern on your trailer? I want to make sure we find the right brake replacement for you. If you're still looking for a solution, I'm happy to help!
