is there a way to mount a TracRac to the top of a camper shell? Have you ever seen it done?

Hello Jerry, thanks for reaching out. That is an interesting idea, but there would really be no good way to mount a TracRac to a camper shell without major modifications. I have never seen it done. Now that you mention it is have never seen a ladder rack attached to a camper shell. It would be super tall and hard to reach the bars.
It is possible to add a crossbar system to a camper shell. A much better option will be something like the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells # Y02-480B. This comes with tracks that install on the cab, and it gives you two 54" crossbars on top of the shell. They can support a 220 lb dynamic load.
