Replacement Leaf Spring for Flattened Out 26-1/2 inch Spring

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/22/2025

Question:

I have a homemade utility trailer I am trying to refurbish. I dont know what the axel rating is but it was used to haul a short wheelbase drag car to the strip. I estimate the trailer at about 1k lbs. The vehicle it hauled was approximately 1800 lbs. The leaf springs have flattened out and seized up due to sitting, but measure 26 ½ inches eye to eye in its current flattened state. What length leaf spring and shackles should I look for? Would a 26 inch leaf spring work or would a normal non-flat leaf spring measure shorter?

Hey Duncan, a 26 inch long leaf spring would be the way to go like the part # e22YR that you referenced. Springs do tend to stretch out and flatten once worn out so going with a new one that measures a bit shorter is the way to go.

To pick out shackles I would measure what you have now and go with that length again.

Hey Duncan, did you end up going with the 26-inch leaf spring for your trailer? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others refurbishing their trailers too.
