Heavy Duty Bike Rack Recommendation for e-Bikes on a 5th Wheel Trailer

Updated 03/21/2025 | Published 03/20/2025

Question:

We have a 2023 KZ Durango half-ton fifth wheel MOdel D286BHD. We want to purchase an e-bike rack which would fit in our 2 inch trailer hitch on the back of the fifth wheel. The hitch rating is 300 pounds. The tow rating is 3000 pounds do not want to tow. The rack would be for two bikes, total weight 175-200 pounds Max. with batteries removed. Do you have any racks you would recommend?

Hey Ken, thanks for reaching out!

The Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR is going to be your best bet. It weighs in at 63.5 lbs and can carry up to 2 e-bikes at 80 lbs each. The only issue is if your bikes really do weigh over 80 lbs each with the batteries removed. If that's the case, then you're looking more for dirt bike/motorcycle carriers as there isn't anything that can hold more than the 80 lbs.

Is there anything else you can remove from the bikes, or is the 175-200 lbs a pretty fixed range?

One bike is an Ubco 2x2, 116lbs. Battery removed, 2nd bike (da wife’s) has not been purchased yet and I am estimating this lesser bike will weigh about 75lbs. Battery removed. So no, that is the range and I want to make sure the rack weight plus the bikes won’t cause damage to my fifth wheel hitch 300 pound limit; contemplating freeway overpass bumps and bouncing. Any ideas?

@KenG Whoa! That's a pretty sweet bike! For that, you're definitely going to need a motorcycle carrier. I did an online search and saw some promising things under "dual motorcycle carrier" so I recommend going that route to be safe - just be sure whatever you end up purchasing is RV rated. Let me know what you end up getting! I'd be interested to know what works out for your setup!
