Best Place on a Boat Trailer Frame to Install the Trailer Valet Swivel Jack and Trailer Mover
Published 06/10/2014 >
Question:
I have a 2013 Mastercraft X 30 with the tandem trailer that came with the boat. The boat and trailer combined way 5300 pounds. I am needing to maneuver the boat on the trailer into and out of my garage and it is very tight corners to turn around. I am only needing to move it about 10 feet into the garage and then about 10 feet out of the garage. I am have purchased a Trailer Valet jack wheel to help maneuver it into and out of my garage. I am not going to remove the swivel wheel Jack that came with the trailer. Because I am at the upper limit weight wise of what the Trailer Valet supports, where is the optimal spot to place the Trailer Valet? Is it on the opposite side of the trailer from where the factory swivel jack wheel is? Or would it be better to place it closer to the tongue so the weight is more evenly distributed on the Trailer Valet? I am not sure where most of the weight is distributed on the trailer, at the front of the tongue or closer to the A-frame section of the trailer.

The further forward on a trailer the less weight there is. If at all possible, move the Trailer Valet, # STC-V211, as far forward as you can on either side. The OCD in me wants to say put it on the opposite side as the regular jack.
A boat trailer usually has lower tongue weight than a regular trailer because the motor on the back of the boat is weighing it down on that end. That should keep you within the tongue weight capacity of the Trailer Valet, which is 500 pounds.
You could also use both jacks at the same time if you are concerned about the weight and capacity.
