Will EcoHitch Installed on 2024 VW Tiguan Set Off Backup Sensors

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/25/2025

Question:

2024 VW TIGUAN SEL 4MOTION DO RECEIVER ATTACHMENTS TRIGGER RADAR AND PROXIMITY SENSORS??? My desire is to install the ecohitch receiver and then have a bicycle rack, a load platform, at times, or simply a square steel step at other times. Will that be impossible with radar and proximity sensors?? Will it be an impossibility to also have the front receiver to pull the TIGUAN with a larger RV?? Thank you.

Hey Cuauhtémoc, with just the EcoHitch part # 306-X7395 installed your rear sensors are going to work like normal. But with anything installed in the hitch they are probably going to show false positives because they don't have a way to look past the accessories. If the step was pretty narrow though I do believe it would fit between the two rear sensors like what you can see in the attached picture.

I hope we get flat tow components for your vehicle but at this time we do not have any base plate kits that fit.

Hey Cuauhtémoc, how did things turn out with the EcoHitch on your Tiguan and the rear sensors? Did the narrow step end up fitting between them like we thought? Your update could make it easier for others setting up similar accessories.

@JamesonC Hello, I decided to acquire the Draw-Tite instead. The EcoHitch is much stronger and probably a better heavier design, but requires you to discard the factory bumper, that was a deal breaker for me. These days many people are driving while distracted on their iPhone, a real epidemic, and moderate-speed rear-end crashes are very common. A sturdy hitch has been a saver for our trucks and cars many times, leaving the offending car destroyed and ours okay. The Draw-Tite fits perfectly, easy to install, a more straight design, not too heavy, excellent. No need to discard the factory bumper with this Draw-Tite, but install in addition to it. No need to scrape and destroy the undercoating protection, it fits fine, if anything use a small handheld sledgehammer to finetune the positioning. No need to cut a 6 inch square hole on the rear plastic, but just a 4 inch. The instructions call for discarding another big piece of plastic, but it can just be trimmed with care to accommodate around the receiver, leaving the rear flap better supported. As far as the proximity sensors; protection bar and other attachments are okay as long as are not directly in front of the sensors.
