Question:
I have a 2022 GMC 3500HD with the 6 3/4 ft bed. Im buying a 2024 Montana 3901rk. Id like to install the Reese goose box and the Gen Y 5inch offset ball assembly. Will this set up allow clearance for a jack knife 90 degree turn? If so what part numbers would you recommend for the goosebox and Gen Y along with the safety chains and installation kit? Thanks for your help.

Hey Steve, I can definitely help with this!
First, the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # GY55XR is what you will need for your 2022 GMC 3500HD with the OEM puck system. This will give you 5" of offset.
For the goosebox, we want to make sure you get the correct model for your camper. The # RP85FR you mentioned will replace the Lippert 1621, 1716, 0719, Rhino, and Fabex PB 600 series pin boxes. I do not have a way to look up what pin box your camper is currently equipped with, so please confirm yours is one if the sizes I mentioned. If you are unsure, send me the model number and serial number from your pin box and I can find out for you.
As far as turning clearance, there is a formula you can use to determine your clearance.
(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from the gooseneck ball center to the truck cab
B = Offset used (5" in this case)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2
Usually with a 6-3/4' bed and 5" offset, you should be good on clearance, but the only way to know for sure will be to measure.
I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out and reply below. I am happy to continue to assist.

Hey Steve, were you able to measure your setup to see if the Reese Goose Box and Gen-Y offset ball gave you enough clearance for tight turns? Knowing how it worked out could really help others setting up a similar truck and trailer combo.
