Is Higher Numerical MORryde Shear Pins Mean Stiffer Springs
Updated 02/11/2025 | Published 02/08/2025 >
Question:
Is the 24 shear spring a stiffer spring than the 16 and are they interchangeable? I have a fiver with tandem 7000 lb Dexter axles that weights 14,200 pounds which is minus the 4,900 pin weight. So its a heavy one, Im right at 7100 lbs per axle. Two of the shackles have at some point bumped against the trailer frame from the flex of the rubber shear spring. These springs were replaced just five years ago. I was wondering if these springs come in different weight ratings or if some are stiffer than others.

Hey Rick, yes the 24 shear spring part # MR95UR does fit in place of the 16 you have and it has a stiffer spring characteristic. This would be what you are looking for it sounds like. The higher the number the higher the weight capacity axles it is intended for.

Actually I found that I have the #20 shear spring, which I believe is rated for 6500-7500 pound tandem axles. So the #24 would be a step up which is exactly what I'm looking for. Just curious, what is the weight rating for the #24?
