Which Companion Hitch Height Setting Should I Use for 2024 Ford F-350 and 2004 Forest River Cardinal

Published 01/28/2025

Question:

Based upon prior knowledge and experience, would you happen to know when using the BWRVK3300, what height low, medium or high would you use with a 2024 F350 Tremor Edition 6’9” bed pulling a 2004 32’ Forest River Cardinal? I’m nowhere near my trailer and need to mount the hitch in the truck to go get it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Paul

Hey Paul, while I can't say with absolute certainty which height setting you'd end up using with the B and W Companion part # BWRVK3300 I feel really confident with recommending the lowest height setting. Reason being newer trucks keep getting taller and taller so since your truck is a 2024 and your trailer is a 2004 (which was designed with shorter trucks in mind) the lowest height setting would be most likely the best option to allow your trailer to sit level.

When you get out to the trailer let me know if I was correct if you can.

And this should still give me plenty of clearance to to the top of the bed when going over uneven surfaces? And I will surely let you know if that was the correct hight. Might be a good idea to start a chart, lol. Paul

@Paul Hopefully, but it would be it's hard to say. You do want around 6 inches of clearance between the bed rails and the trailer overhang to prevent any clearance problems. Sometimes for older trailers you have to lift the suspension to get it tall enough that you can have a hitch height setting that is level and has enough clearance. A chart would be nice but there are so many campers to keep track of and it's pretty frequent that modifications get done like tire size changes and suspension changes that it most likely wouldn't be totally accurate.
