Where to Install Custom Third Brake Light Camera for 8" Factory Monitor

Updated 05/22/2025 | Published 04/21/2025

Question:

Where do people typically put the switch for the 346001 3rd brake light camera? I have ordered one for my F-150 and it does not have auxiliary switches so I am looking for ideas.

Hey Joe! We haven't done a lot of installations on the # 3460001 and I believe we tied it into a factory switch on the one we did. I would say find any open spot in the dash nearby for installation like the picture below.

Hi Robin, Thanks for the come-back. Unfortunately I don't have a panel on my 2019 F-150 that looks like your picture. So I am looking for feedback on where folks who have installed this on an F-150 will have put the switch. In addition, and with respect ;-) , that red switch is not going to match the rest of the dash. I would rather use a rocker switch that will match more closely. Thanks! Joe

@JoeS that is a generic picture, I'm not even sure what vehicle it is from. I only added it to give you a general idea for placement. If you have an unused switch overhead that will work, that is what we used. You can certainly substitute the switch for a toggle switch that matches your interior, Ford might even have something that will make it look OEM. Since none of our customers have submitted pictures or described a good spot I'm not sure where they're installing it. Looking at pictures of the dash it looks like there might be a spot with some other switches to the left of the steering wheel. You could also go to the right below the ignition, or on the passenger side of your HVAC controls in that open area.

I used a small rocker switch in place of the supplied switch to match the dash. For mounting the switch on my F150 I found a spot under the 4-wheel drive control switch with nothing behind it. I mounted the small rocker switch there. I ran the "power" wire under the dash over to the fuse panel under the glove box on the passenger side. Used an "add-a-fuse" (or fusetap) which I attached to fuse #32 which is constant on. Then from the switch I ran the wire from the switch up into the space behind the screen above the radio. (I can send a picture of the rocker switch if you tell me how.) I watched the installation video a couple of times & then installed the camera. The video is for an F250 which is a little different from the F150 but I figured it out. The camera is installed and it works just fine!

Oh! And for aiming the camera there is a little baggie in the kit with a small U-shaped piece of spring steel. That fits into the holes on either side of the camera lens. Then with the backup-cam turned on you can look through the rear view window at the screen in the dash and adjust the camera by yourself.
