Recommended Dexter BrakeRite Actuator for Disc Brakes

Updated 01/14/2025 | Published 01/12/2025

Question:

I have a boat trailer with drum brakes. I had a titan brakerite pump on it And it worked great. The circuit board fried so I replaced the pump w a new one. Trailer brakes won’t engage now. I’m thinking they gave me a pump for disc brakes? If so, would a disc brake pump work improperly with drum brakes?

Ron that's likely what's causing your issue. Pumps for disc brakes are meant for disc brakes, and pumps for drum brakes are meant for drum brakes.

So for your disc brakes, you're going to want to go with the Dexter BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # DX82KR or, if you have something different feel free to let me know in the comments what that is and we'll get you taken care of.

I have drum brakes. The pump I have is for disc. What’s the part number for a brakerite pump for drum?

@RonR Sorry about that! So then for drum brakes you'd want the Dexter BrakeRite II Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102.

@BryceD this part number also states disc in the description?

@RonR Yes, but it can be used with drum brakes when it's used with the Drum Brake Reducer.
