Question:
Ive located the replacement 12inch electric brakes for 5-7k axles p/n AKEBRK-7-SA, which is sold as a set of two. How many hub kits AKHD-655-6-EZ-K do I need to purchase, one or two? I cant see anywhere in the product listing how many come in the box for 177$. Im trying to replace the brakes on a 1995 Big Valley 27foot gooseneck 3 horse trailer. Its a tandem axle, though only one axle has brakes.

Hello Niles,
Yes, the brakes # AKEBRK-7-SA are sold in a pair. The hubs however are sold individually, and as you have seen are a little more pricey. The nice thing about the hubs is that they should last quite a bit longer than the brakes if they are taken care of, just make sure you change out the brakes before they start destroying the inside of the hub. I went ahead and looked through the hubs to see if we have a more cost effective option. The # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K are for an Easy Grease Axle which is why in one of the grease caps it has that little rubber plug so you can get to the zerk fitting at the end of the spindle to grease it up. If you do not have an ease grease axle, then we can save you a couple of bucks because the # AKHD-655-6-K will work great for you. They come with same bearings for a # 42 spindle, rated the same, 6 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern with 1/2" studs, they just don't have that little rubber piece. I have included an image so you can see exactly what rubber piece I am referring to.
After you get the new set up on there, please let us know what you think about them. Also, if you happen to include a picture and the horses happen to make it in the picture as well, it would definitely make my day!
