Hey Larry,
The PullRite OEX Super 5th-Wheel Hitch # PUL79ZR base weighs in at 101 lbs so you're dropping the overall weight by 42 lbs by removing the top part.
If you want something lighter we have the PullRite OEX SuperLite # PUL89ZR which has a slightly different design, but the base only weighs in at 85 lbs and the top stays installed on your pin box so it's a little easier to use.
