What Other Benefits Does a Weight Distribution System Have Besides Helping With Sag?

Question:
I am currently towing a 20 Airstream trailer with a 2024 F150 using a Blue OX weight distributing hitch. When I got this trailer I had a Ranger and this is the hitch setup that the RV dealer did for me. Since I moved up to the F150 I had a hitch dealer tell me that if the truck doesn't squat more than 2 inches, I don't need the load leveling hitch. The Blue Ox is very heavy so if I don't need it I would like to get one of your light weight aluminum hitches Weigh Safe to take its place. My questions are is that accurate that I do not need the load leveling if my truck only squats 1.75 inches? Also, the Weigh Safe hitch would move the trailer 5 inches closer to the truck. I am concerned that would not allow me to turn as sharp as I can now without the trailer hitting the truck. I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Hello Mark,
By using a weight distribution system it isn't all about the squat of the towed vehicle, there are other benefits of using it as well. When using any of the Blue Ox Weight Distribution it evenly distributes the weight of the trailer, by doing so it improves your ride quality while towing by eliminating sway especially in windy conditions or when passing larger vehicles, this in return will help with overall wear and tear that towing can do to the F-150 and to the Airstream as well. Not to mention that by eliminating the sway of the trailer, will also help with steering fatigue as well, who wants to have to over correct a trailer when it starts to sway? This too can be dangerous and can even cause an accident.
You also mentioned about the 5" that it adds, if you are comfortable with your turning radius that you have while using the weight distribution system, why change it? If it were me, I would still use the weight distribution system because of the reasons I have mentioned.

Hey Mark, how did things go after sticking with your Blue Ox weight distribution hitch on your F-150 and Airstream setup? Did you notice any difference in ride quality or sway control compared to what the dealer mentioned? Your update could make it easier for others deciding between a weight distribution system and a standard hitch.
