Replaced Ventline Lid After Storm Blew Off Old One, Troubleshooting for New Lid Not Staying Down?

Updated 11/29/2024 | Published 11/28/2024

Question:

I have a powered Ventline roof vent. During a hurricane, the roof vent blew off. I replaced the roof vent, but now the motor doesn’t hold the lid down in high winds like it used to. The motor works and both gears appear to be in good shape. What do you recommend to correct this issue?

Hello Mike.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your new lid not staying on, thank you for the pictures as they are always very helpful.

So with the lid blowing off like that and replacing it with a new one it could be a couple of different things. Here is what you want to check:

-Check the lid arm, since the lid was jolted off of there it could have stretched out of misaligned the arm which is why it is not holding it down securely. If you inspect the arm and see you need a new one, the Replacement Operator, Knob and Screw for # BVD0462-00 is the one for your Ventline V2119.

-Inspect the hinge portion on the new lid. Make sure it has a aligned properly as a bad hinge connection can also cause the lid to not stay closed.

-You mentioned that the gears are seem to be in good shape. I would double check the play in them, if any screws or bolts are a little loose make sure to tighten them down.

-You also mentioned that the motor seems to be running properly, might not hurt to check to make sure you are getting enough power to the motor using something like a Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993. With the lid being jolted off like that it could have messed up the torque of the motor which could be another reason the lid doesn't want to stay down.

If you test all of the above especially making sure that everything is tight and secure, you most likely need a new motor. When the lid jolted off, it could have damaged something in the motor to where it no longer has that secure tight torque it once did. If you need a new lift motor # BVB0601-00 is the right one for you.
