Demco Stay-IN-Play - How Do I Wire LED Indicator Light?

Updated 12/16/2025 | Published 11/25/2024

Question:

I have a 2024 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid. I purchased the Demco Stand and Play brake system with the towed vehicle rear view mirror mount LED. I also have the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Part 88400. My question is specific to the LED. The LED has two wires. Which two wires from the LED do I connect these to? The instructions are not clear for my vehicle type Hybrid with electronic brakes and the photos in the instruction book are not clear. Your response is appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Ralph, thanks for reaching out. The LED indicator included with your Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99251 should be connected to the cold side of the brake switch. We do not have any diagrams that show the exact wire color for this so your best bet will be to use a wire tester and poke around until you find the wire that is normally cold, but has 12v power only when the brake pedal is pressed. A dealership may be able to tell you the exact wire color, otherwise your best bet will be to use a tester like part # PTW2993 to find the correct wire. The red wire goes to the cold side of the brake switch.

Hey Ralph, were you able to locate the correct cold-side brake wire on your Maverick using the circuit tester? Knowing how that connection worked out could really help others setting up the Stay-IN-Play Duo on hybrid vehicles. Your update could point others in the right direction.

I didn't use a circuit tester. Found an Etrailer installation videos that stayed it was the purple wire. Worked for me.
