Anti-Rattle and Locking Pin Recommendation for Class IV and Class V Hitches

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/16/2024

Question:

My truck has a Class V receiver. My RV has a Class IV. I have a reducer to convert my Class V to IV for my all of my racks. What I’m looking for is an anti-rattle device that will work with both and can be locked. My concern is the length of the pin accommodating both.

Hey Dave, thanks for reaching out!

The best option for you is the XL Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2-1/2" Hitches # SHP2040-XL which can work both with 2" and 2-1/2" hitch receivers, but it does require that your accessories have a hollow shank. Class V hitches can be 2-1/2" or 3" so that's another factor that needs to be taken into account.

If you have a 3" receiver and a 2" receiver then you'll simply have to get combinations for both sizes like the InfiniteRule Hitch Lock # 34061074-D and Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp # GY65XR designed for 3" receivers. Let me know what hitch sizes you have as well as what accessories you're needing to carry and I'll be more than happy to see if we have more specific parts for you.

Hey Dave, did the XL anti-rattle lock end up fitting both your Class IV and Class V setups the way you needed? Your results could really help others trying to quiet down their hitch connections. Let me know what you found with the pin length.

@JerredH I did not purchase this product. I had one from another class IV product. I ended up using some wood shims when I use my Class V to Class IV adapter to keep that from having some play. Not ideal!
