Updated 09/24/2024 | Published 09/14/2024

Question:

Bought a Lippert smart jack for our 2019 Escalade to pull our Alcom Stealth trailer but the hatch will not open/close with the tongue jack installed. Any suggestions?

Hey Eric, it's great to hear from you again!

If you're having trouble opening the rear hatch on your 2019 Cadillac Escalade with the Lippert Smart Jack # LC643589 installed on your trailer then you can try to unbolt the jack and turn it to see if that helps with clearance, but I'm not too confident that will give you the clearance you're needing.

Aside from swapping out the jack to something with a smaller profile, I'm afraid the only solution for you would be to avoid getting into the back hatch of your Escalade when you're hitched up to the trailer.

We returned the JAck. And really did like that one. Do you know of any others that have a lower profile? Not being able to open the hatch while the trailer is connected is not an option. There must be others with Escalade type vehicles that have this same issue...

@EricM I believe we do have some smaller profiles, but just to make things a little easier, what kind of clearance are you needing? As in what would be the max height of a tongue jack that would still allow you to open up your hatch?

@JonG I will check the clearance in a few days.

@EricM Another possibility is to add a longer ball mount. If you let me know what the length of the ball mount is I can see if there is anything else that can be done too.
