Recommended Trailer Jack for a 5'x8' Utility Trailer

Updated 01/06/2026 | Published 09/13/2024

Question:

We have a 5’x8’ utility trailer we use to haul e tadpole bicycles. We need a jack that will lift the trailer tongue high enough to go over the ball on the motorhome hitch which is 21 1/2” from the ground, and it also has to go low enough to rest on a ball hitch that is only 14” from the ground to the top of the ball when we use a different vehicle to pull it We are looking at a jack with all terrain wheels. So, would ORJW350D work? Or is there a better one that would fit our needs given the measurements we are working with? Thank you!! The 2 vehicles we will use to pull the trailer are a Jeep wrangler and a Jayco motorhome. Bob and Jeanie Munsterman.

Hey Jeanie, I think only 12" of lift is going to be a bit too short based off of your measurements. Instead, I recommend going with the Ark Xtreme Off-Road Swivel Trailer Jack w/ 2 Wheels # ARK39FR which has 24" of lift and collapses to 12" when fully retracted.

This jack also has a 1,600 lb weight capacity which should be plenty for your utility trailer.

Hey Jeanie, how did the Ark Xtreme Off-Road jack with 24" of lift work out for your trailer and the two vehicles? Your setup sounds like it needed that extra range. Sharing how it performed could help others hauling with different hitch heights too.

@JesseM It worked like a charm!!!! Range was good, and rolls easy. The only problem we are having is getting it to release to let the jack and wheel down, and also to release to raise the jack/wheel. Not sure if it is because the spring is so strong? Any tips would be appreciated.

@JeanieM Awesome glad to hear you are happy with the Ark jack! The release can definitely feel stiff at first, especially when there is still weight on the jack. They definitely use a strong, well-made spring. Taking a little weight off the tongue can make it easier to release. A little use time usually helps the spring loosen up as well.
