Question:
Good Morning! I recently bought a trailer and I am wanting to change the hubs on it to get it to a Jeep bolt pattern. How do I tell what size axles do I need to fit the new hubs? It is an older trailer from the 70s and the tire size is odd all it said was 6x16. Thanks!

You'll need to match the hubs up to the size of the spindle on your trailer's axle. You will need to know what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from the bearings on one of your hubs or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle. The measurements needed are the parts of the spindle where the bearings ride. I have attached a diagram below to show you,
We have ran across your set up before and have a solution if you can not match up the axle to a hub with a 5 on 5" bolt pattern. It is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System item # ASR1THDS03 with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly item # AKIHUB-550-35-EZ-K. This setup has a built in lift which you'll want for your 16" tires, an extended spindle arm so you can clear larger tires, and it will come with hubs which have the same Jeep 5 on 5" bolt pattern.
