Is There Custom Fit Fifth Wheel Rail Kit that Fits 2020 Ram 1500 Classic 5.5 ft Bed

Updated 09/08/2024 | Published 08/30/2024

Question:

2020 ram 1500 classic crewcab 4wd 5-1/2foot bed Hemi V-8. Dual exhaust. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I have the Reese Slider hitch. Just need to install the rail kit. No-drill prefered... but will use whatever is best choice. Can I mount the rails slightly back of axle center ? Sincerely, OneEyed Randy.

Hey One-Eyed Randy! Yes we do have a custom fit Reese fifth wheel rail kit that fits your 2020 Ram 1500 Classic 5.5 foot bed with the part # RP50142-58. These will place slightly forward of the rear axle center.

You will need a slider hitch that slides a bit more than usual with the Demco HIjacker Autoslide part # DM48TV which slides 22-1/2 inches whereas most are about half than that.

Hello Jamedon C. ! Thank you so much for your prompt reply ! We already have a Reese Pro Series Slider. (16 K gvw ~ 4K pin load ) New truck needs rails so that our Desert Fox 305J ToyHauler can do it's "thing" ! I realize it's gonna be "iffy" close re: 5th wheel to cab clearance due to such a short truck bed. "SideWinders"... etc.etc are great... but PRICEY ! Can't spend that much. Question ~ why do they place it slightly forward of the rear axle center ? I'd rather it be 2" to 4" back of axle center.

@Oneeye Hopefully with the slider you have there is enough clearance for you to get by. The reason the king pin center will always be located either directly over the rear axle or slightly forward is so that the pin weight doesn't unweight the front axle (think a see-saw) when the trailer hooked up which would making braking dangerous.

@JamesonC Copy that, Jameson. Made that mistake.. ONCE ! Was hauling used power line poles on a car trailer. Once = Enough fun. Truly appreciate your knowledge and prompt reply, Jameson ! Sincerely, OneEye'd Randy.
