How to Determine Correct 3,500 lb Leaf Springs For Keystone Trailer

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/25/2024

Question:

2020 Keystone Passport 2820BH with dual 3500 axles. The leaf springs have gone flat from 4+years of pretty heavy use. Getting any accurate measurements is not really going to happen so I was hoping to get some help selecting the proper leaf spring replacements. Would it be worth replacing these with a “heavier” spring? Also should I also replace the shackles? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey Shawn,

Without accurate measurements there unfortunately isn't any way to help. We don't have any way of knowing what leaf springs are on any specific trailer so you'll have to measure them. While it won't be exact, it's really the only way to do it; the best would be to jack up the trailer and measure them without a load if at all possible, but if you can't then just measuring them as-is can suffice. Since they're flat you'll want to take ones that are a bit shorter than what you have; for example if yours measure 27-1/2" use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 27" Long # e97SR.

A heavier spring won't really be beneficial and can just make the ride stiffer so there isn't much of a reason to do that. As for the shackles, replacing them with something heavy duty is smart, and I'd go with the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3-1/8" Long Shackle Straps # MR76ZR or 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR depending on how long your current shackles are.

I've also added a link below to our selection of 3,500 lb leaf springs for you.

Hey Shawn, were you able to get those leaf spring measurements for your Keystone Passport? Once you had the numbers, did the 27-inch springs and MORryde shackles end up being a good match? Your update could make it easier for others replacing worn springs on similar trailers.
